Lydia Nimbeshaho is a survivor of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Speaker, Mental Health Activist, Mentor, Educator, Storyteller, Mother, and the Founder of Beyond the Veil.
She is passionate about sharing knowledge for hope and restoration through Beyond The Veil Mission. This non-profit organization raises awareness about mental health and its effects on the well-being of Rwandans in partnership with skilled and enthusiastic volunteers, descendants of African and black communities.
At the age of 6, Lydia witnessed the murder of her parents in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and she was forced to grow up quickly to face many challenges that most of us only encounter late in adulthood. Yet, the difficulties she met at a young age ignited her compassion to impact life and effect positive change through education and the sharing of hope.
After the1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Lydia started a new life in Toronto, Ontario, in 2010. She obtained her B.A., with distinction in Sociology and Sexuality Studies from York University. She is pursuing a Master of Divinity-Clinical track at Tyndale University in her final year. Lydia now tells her story to different communities as a mental health advocate and the impact of genocide on Survivors.
Lydia currently lives in Hamilton, Ontario, with her three amazing sons.
